Funky Brews was formed by a dream to create an original, tight, instrumental funk outfit. In 2004, Cal approached Bill, an old high school chum, to jam out some ideas he was tossing up in his head.

After the first couple of jams they knew the potential sounds that this band could create. An ad on Melband was posted for a guitarist who had as much personality and originality as the founding members. Having only one swing and a miss interview, Steph replied. As soon as he plugged in we knew he was the right man for the job, leaving us in a state of shock, with his ability and fun loving personality.

Sick of seeing bands going out half assed and unprepared, the trio rehearsed and wrote songs with no rush to get out and play gigs. A year gone by and the solid foundation of Funky Brews had been created. Wanting to broaden the sound of the 'move ya feet, shake ya booty' grooves, trusty old Melband was called upon once again in search of a sax and keys player.

We've all heard the term "diamond in the rough" but who would have thought we would find two!! Experienced professionals both talented and original, Sayako and Pete graced the Brews with their unique sounds. Sayako having years of experience being classically trained with a deep passion for funk and Pete, a session player from Queensland with a musical resume too long to mention immediately became an integral part of the Funky Brews.

The five members now only being together for six months are ready to bring their fresh new sounds to the public scene. With a high possibility of expanding the group further, Funky Brews now have the wheels in motion to attack the local scene and raise the bar to a new level.
